How to spend a wonderful 48 hours in Mumbai
First day: morning and afternoon
In the morning, when you arrive in Mumbai check out your accommodations, preferably somewhere in the Colaba or Fort tourist areas of southern Mumbai. If you want luxury, the famous Taj Mahal and the Tower Hotel are perfect for you.
At noon, head to Leopold Cafe on Kolaba Road for lunch. Then at 2 pm, shop at Mumbai's famous Colaba Causeway.
At the third, you can stroll along picturesque Strand Promenade in Kolaba from Radio Club to India Gate. At 4:00, enjoy tea at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower's Sea Lounge restaurant.
First Day: Evening
At 5 pm take a taxi along the Marine Drive towards Girgaum Chowpatty at sunset. This beach is an evening break for Mumbai residents who flock there to watch the sun disappear behind the majestic Malabar Hill skyline and eat snacks from stalls.
At 7 am, take a taxi to Kala Ghoda in the Fort area of south Mumbai and stroll through the arts area. At nine, there are plenty of options in the area for dinner, depending on your taste, such as Khyber, Trishna, and The Table.
Day Two: Morning
Wake up at 6 am to see the city as you wake up, and start your journey before the mad rush. The easiest way to do this is to take a tour, such as Mumbai's Good Morning Mumbai tour.
At 9, eat your breakfast at one of Mumbai's beautiful cafes, such as Pantry, Kala Ghoda Cafe and Bake House Cafe, which serves delicious Western-style breakfasts, as well as tea, coffee, and juice.
At ten, the Chathrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, the main museum in Mumbai.
At noon, dine at the nearby Gaylord restaurant if you want Indian food.
Day two: Afternoon and evening
At one, take a taxi to Banganga Tank, the oldest inhabited place in Mumbai, making it one of the most fascinating places to get to know the city's history.
At third, you know the favorite things in Chor Bazaar, the famous Mumbai. You will not believe all the things available there!
At 5, visit the Bhau Daji Lad Museum and have afternoon tea at the museum café. Opened in 1857, this small museum is the oldest in Mumbai.
At 7:30 pm, head to the Kamala Mills at Lower Parel for dinner at The Bombay Canteen or Farzi Café. This vast industrial area has been redeveloped to become the most important dining destination in Mumbai. Book a table early!
Day Three: Morning
At eight o'clock, head down to Yazdani, one of Mumbai's oldest pubs, and try chai and Brun maska.
At nine o'clock, go on a walking tour accompanied by a guide in Dharavi, one of the world's largest slums. The tour offers an amazing insight into this inspiring community and its burgeoning small industry, showing what people can achieve despite their difficult circumstances. You will be amazed!
