Sony’s Deal With Microsoft fret  The unconscious PlayStation Team

Microsoft and Sony surprised the gaming industry when it was announced the two long-time rivals in the console space would be joining forces. It was so surprising, in fact, that even Sony’s PlayStation team was caught off guard about the deal, and was worried it would affect their already in-motion future plans.
The deal will have Sony working with Microsoft on next-gen cloud streaming technology and some of Sony’s online services will now be hosted by Microsoft. It’s a move that both companies are hoping sets them up better against Google, set to launch streaming gaming service Stadia in the near future.
But this was all news to the PlayStation team,
“Negotiations with Microsoft began last year and were handled directly by Sony’s senior management in Tokyo, largely without the involvement of the PlayStation unit, according to people familiar with the matter. Staff at the gaming division were caught off-guard by the news. Managers had to calm workers and assure them that plans for the company’s next-generation console weren’t affected, said the people, asking not to be identified discussing private matters.”

The PlayStation unit actually thought that this deal was upended the plans for the next console, but it turns out that wasn’t the case. It seems…odd that such a pivotal deal for the future of PlayStation gaming wouldn’t be discussed with the PlayStation team, but apparently, this means little for the PS5, which is still on the way, likely in 2020.
